Xin Ai 5/20/2001 Yuncheng Orphanage, Shanxi
Xin Ai came to Bethel when he was around two and a half years old. He was found abandoned at the main gate of Jing Jin Villa in Lang Fang, right by where the old Bethel facility was located. Though investigations were made, no one claimed him, so he was brought to Bethel. He was found with only one tattered quilt, ragged clothes, and some biscuits. There was no information about his history. Because of his sad and unusual circumstances, he was accepted into the Bethel family even though he is not visually impaired, and his new Ayis gave him the name Xin Ai.
When he first arrived, he was unable to move on his own. His body was so weak that he could not even support his head. He had no language skills and couldn’t sit, stand, or walk. He was diagnosed with severe epilepsy and mental delays. It took a lot of time, patience, and therapy, but Xin Ai is now able to walk with assistance. In the beginning he needed a lot of support. He recently had a splint taken off his leg, which greatly improved his enjoyment and ability. He can now walk the whole length of the farm at Bethel without difficulty!
Xin Ai loves playing with bouncing balls. He has a big smile on his face whenever the ball is in his hands, and loves to watch them roll away from him around the room. He also loves cars; whenever he goes on a special outing and sees vehicles driving he gets very excited and flashes one of his sweet smiles. He is a good eater as long as his food has flavor--he doesn’t like to eat things that are bland! Sometimes at snack time he can be a bit sneaky and reach over and try to take other children’s snacks. He also really loves to go swimming, especially splashing water around. Xin Ai has come a long way and we are really proud of his progress!
